Youth Opportunities:
Philosophy of Youth Ministry
Core Values and Actions
Values...
- We recognize that the primary
spiritual responsibility for youth rests with the parents of our youth (Deut.
6:6-9; Ephesians 6:4). Therefore, any ministry to our youth must place
priority on the parents – supporting them, equipping them, and involving them
in the lives of our young people.
- We recognize that the times we live
in are “evil” and that we must “make the most of every opportunity” (Ephesians
5:15-17; Eccl. 12:1) that God gives us to minister to all age groups, but that
the teen years are an especially important (and brief) opportunity for
capturing hearts for Christ. Therefore, we believe that specific
youth-oriented activities are important for reaching youth for Christ and for
discipling them for His kingdom.
- We recognize the importance of teens
developing strong peer relationships and adult relationships (Eccl. 4:9-12).
Therefore, we will provide activities that will build relationships (both
youth and adult) that will emphasize godly relationships.
Actions...
Therefore, we will attempt to:
- Provide fellowship opportunities
for youth at least twice each month. We will attempt to include
adults, especially parents in these activities. We also hope to provide at
least two retreat type events for our youth each school year.
- Provide opportunities for
fellowship with youth of other churches at least once each quarter
to allow our youth to recognize they are part of a larger body of young people
seeking to follow Christ.
- Provide support and training
opportunities for parents of youth at least once each year. We also hope
to provide regular support through counsel and prayer with parents as needs
arise.
- Provide prayer support for each
youth through those committed to our youth team.
- Provide opportunities for personal
discipleship for those desiring to grow deeper in the Christian life.
- Provide opportunities for missions
and ministry through an annual missions trip and occasional opportunities
for local Christian service.
Learning Centers
Learning Centers for Junior High and Senior High Groups are
offered on Sunday mornings at 9:30. These groups are led by adult volunteers who
have a heart for young people and who want to help them grow in their
relationship with God.
Youth Fellowship
Youth Fellowship Group meets regularly and provides opportunities for social interaction,
study and service.
